Gilead by Marilynne Robinson; fiction
A pastor's memoir to his young son, this book was a recommendation from John Piper's blog. It's not one that you can pick up and down easily, to really absorb the story it must be done in large blocks of time. I can see how Piper found it so beautiful, as it is a pastor viewing the end of his long ministry and wondering if any of it was worthwhile or fruitful.
" That is how life goes- we send our children into the wilderness. Some of them on the day they are born, it seems, for all the help we can give them. Some of them seem to be a kind of wilderness unto themselves. But, there must be angels there, too, and springs of water. Even that wilderness, the very habitation of jackals is the Lord's. I need to bear this in mind. "

I didn't realize it until today, but this Christmas has been very hands on.
Hot little hands on the bowl of the mixer- a quickie way to bring that butter to room temperature!

Awesome recipe- Lemon Raspberry Thumbprint cookies
truly simple, I swear!
This recipe uses whole wheat flour, ground almonds, and maple syrup for sweetener.
A good way to satiate your sweet tooth and forgiving for little hands to mix together.

And yes, Madeline received her first Lego kit. This is the Lego Friends line that has received some flack for taking a "gender neutral" toy and girlifying it. Uh, huh. Somehow the Star Wars sets escaped notice. Princess Leia lives here.
